Welcome to PowerTorque. It's the end of the line for production of the Sterling. Although sales will continue in Australia through next year, after the stock has gone the truck that started its heritage as the Ford Louisville will be laid to rest. In this issue we pay tribute to the Louisville brand that forged its mark on Australian trucking. Our front cover profiles just one of the immaculate fleet of prime movers operated by Heavy Haulage Australia. And if you like the look of the Kenworth on the front cover then you'll absolutely love the full sized poster inside. Our thanks to photographer Robbie Rose and our congratulations to the Klos Brothers Justin and Turk who handled the customized treatment. Join us for the drive south from Brisbane in a Mack Trident running at 500hp with the Mack engine to see how it faired with the single trailer work.We also took the new Hino 700 Series for a drive around the outskirts of Sydney. Reg Lawson is a sub-contractor for TNT who makes sure he gets maximum vehicle utilization by running local through the day and interstate at night with a team of drivers. Hobart truck Spares also has something to celebrate with the arrival of a brand new Peterbilt 379 fitted with the first Jerr-Dan recovery unit sold in Australia by newly appointed distributors Kent Custom and Kollision of Sydney. The PowerTorque team headed off to Germany for the Hanover Truck Show and came back armed with information on the latest technology in both trucks and trailers. We also look at China's rise as a truck builder, the Sydney Convoy for Kids, the Golden Oldies from Dubbo and of course we cover the best of model making with Evan Richards. Add a little country music from Adam Harvey and that's our issue for another month. A warm welcome to all our readers and of course to all our new readers joining us in North America and Canada. We hope you enjoy the read and the ride.
Kind Regards Chris Mullett Managing Editor/ Publisher |
