Braking The Habit

It is a concern that the transport

industry has not been quick to

accept the latest ABS, EBS, ESP and

  Roll Stability Programmes that are

available on trailers, as the nation is

  renowned for being early adopters

of new technology as evidenced by

iPhones, plasma TVs and now iPads.

  Admittedly, trailers have a longer

life than prime movers and rigid

trucks, but there are sound financial

reasons why they should be either

replaced or upgraded to the level of

  new technology currently available.

Some of the major national fleets

have already made the move into fully electronic brake control systems, and have reaped the rewards of better braking, longer tyre life, without the risk of wheel lock-up, and a reduction in risk of rollover.  For some it’s a requirement of their customer base, for others it’s an attempt to maintain maximum productivity and safety for their workforce by removing, or at least substantially reducing, the risk of rollover.
