Working Smarter

     Perry Aiello, the principal of

  Melbourne Tile Transport, knows

  the industry, having been involved

  in trucking and transport since the

  age of 18, he’s had plenty of time to

  figure out ways of improving

  efficiency. The result is a move

  towards the implementation of

  Performance Based Standards that

  have produced improved payload,

  better vehicle utilization and

  improved productivity:

    “I started driving general freight

  as a youngster and then drove a

  brewery truck for Linfox. Then in

  my early 20’s I moved into driving a roof tile truck, which I bought under a truck-with-work scheme. As some of the drivers left the business, L bought them out, and eventually built up my own fleet with five trucks.”
