Like the song, we’ve been everywhere to research this month’s issue with a trip over to the USA to review the largest truck show in the world, the Mid-America Truck Show held in Louisville, Kentucky. The results were well worth the trip as we saw at first hand how each of the North American manufacturers is coping with the ever tightening exhaust emissions legislation. The show contained a few surprises such as the release of the Kenworth T700 and the Peterbilt 587 and we also found plenty to interest us amongst other new trucks and trailers, especially when you look closely at the advances the Americans have made with alloy trailers. Navistar looks stronger every year and to find out all the latest plans for the brand in Australia and also the background to the introduction of the Cat brand we interviewed the people right at the top. What they say goes and consequently we believe that no other Australian magazine will be able to give you the whole story, right as it happens. After leaving Louisville we headed to Cummins headquarters where we caught up with the Chief Engineer Dr. Stephen Charlton and then headed further northeast to ask similar questions at the home of Detroit Diesel. You’ll get the news before anyone else. David Whyte has been really busy in his role as Road Test Editor and in this issue you’ll be able to read about what he thinks of the UD GW 470, the Scania 440 and the Volvo FH540. He’s a professional driver and a great asset to our magazine. There’s so much to read we can’t tell you everything that’s in this issue but keep an eye out for the results of the PowerTorque Technology and Innovation Award. It really does celebrate the best of the best and is a great indictment of Australian engineering and know-how. As global interest in PowerTorque continues to increase you can now access each issue and download a digital version direct to your laptop, desk top or i-Pad. Just check out www.zinio.com and click on automotive/truck to find out the details. Stay safe,
Kind regards Chris Mullett Managing Editor/Publisher
