Welcome to Delivery Magazine.
As we roll over the end of yet another very busy year for the motoring industry we can look ahead to some significant changes for the Australian market. The manufacturers and importers have to realign their products and their stock levels to ensure that they and their dealer groups are able to move on progressively with sound financial backing. After the initial shock of the change in global financial circumstances there now seems to be a leveling out with senior executives in Australia concentrating on long term viability. For the buyer it means that there are plenty of bargains around right now and it really is an excellent time to snap up a new light commercial at a price structure that may not be repeated within the next few years.
In this latest issue we actually diversify into ute racing in the desert. Bruce Garland is Australia’s rally expert and he and his co-driver Harry Suzuki headed off to the sands of the United Arab Emirates to prove how tough the latest Isuzu D-Max can be in circumstances that most drivers will never reproduce.
We head to Hanover and check out the brand new Volkswagen ute scheduled for release at the end of 2009. It’s a new direction for VW and first impressions are certainly going to excite the market. We also take a look at the advantages of having the right bodywork for your light commercial. A little forethought before buying can make the vehicle far more capable when it starts work.
Our long term test of the Hyundai i-load crew van continues as we add some more accessories such as LED running lights and new high intensity driving lamps plus we raid the corporate accessory brochure down at Hyundai and gain a few more bits and pieces to make life more interesting.
The development of hybrid and electric light commercials is really taking off in Europe and in this issue we check on just how things are moving ahead and whether it would work here in Australia.
With recent new additions to the small van sector the range of choice is increasing rapidly. Check out our guide to small vans and decide whether you need two side doors, a barn door at the rear or a tailgate to make your loading and unloading easier. We also run through all the utes available from Ford and ponder on the future of the Falcon past 2011.
With lots to read plus our specification comparison charts that detail every aspect of all light commercials on the Australian market you’ll find that we’ve got something of interest for everyone.
Enjoy the drive and stay safe and of course we wish you a very happy Christmas and a healthy and happy new year.
